So meen pathiri is a very easy and delicious snack that does not require much prior preparations. It is healthy too, as it is a steamed dish, and very little oil goes into frying the fishes. Meen pathiri is usually prepared using fleshy fish varieties like seer fish/ king fish, pomphret, or even prawns. In this recipe I have used seer fish.
Instructions to make Meen pathiri:
- Boil 1 cup of water, with salt and aniseed. Once water started boiling add 1 cup of pathiri podi.mix we'll. Soon after removing from stove knead it thoroughly.. This is quite difficult you will have to dip hand in cold water each time and do this. Pls check you tube for the process.
- Now fish masala is made same as of chicken masala i did for chicken roll. Only thing is firstly fish need to be fried after marinating in turmeric, salt and red chilli powder. And crush it with hand and mix in masala.
- Make Ada using the dough.fill this mixture and steam it. You can use Coarsely blended coconut,shallots,and aniseed to the dough.
Meen pathiri- old picture: For this preparation first we have to prepare fish masala filling. Next is make rice dough and flatten it in a sheet, my mother use banana leaf for this. But here we used aluminium foil, if you can please prepare in banana leaf that is the traditional way of preparation.. Pathiri is a term used loosely in Malabar region of Kerala to mean roti/chappathi/ or flatbread. The prefix of the word" pathiri" decides what kind it is.godumbu pathiri is made of godambu,i.e.wheat, ari pathiri is made of rice flour, erachi pathiri, has erachi /meat stuffed in it, meen pathiri has meen,/fish stuffed in it and so on.
