Lorelie's Response Hi Gwen Adapted from Cake Man Raven's red velvet cake recipe. Red velvet will do just fine underneath fondant. You do not have to use pound cakes for a heavier cake. I cover cakes with fondant for weddings, showers, etc. quite often and do not change my cakes. The icing underneath is another thing.
