The ingredients needed to make Apple Butter:
- Take 3 Lbs Pink Lady Apples (Or, whatever you like)
- Take 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar (unpacked)
- Get 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
- Get 3 Heaping Tsp Honey
- Take 3 Heaping Tsp Molasses
- Get To taste Cinnamon
- Take To taste Nutmeg
- Take 8 Oz. Root Beer
Wipe the rims of the jars with a moist paper towel to remove any food residue. If you plan to store the apple butter un-refrigerated, make sure to follow proper canning procedures. Before applying the lids, sterilize the lids by placing them in a bowl and pouring boiling water over them. Wipe the rims of the jars clean before applying the lids.
Steps to make Apple Butter:
- Wash, core and dice apples. Place in a large pot.
- Add in everything but the root beer. Stir throughly to coat apples. Add in the root beer, but don’t stir it. Allow the seasonings to stay adhered to the apples. Cover. Turn stove on medium heat and bring to a simmer. Then reduce to low.
- Keep an eye on the apples. It’ll take a while, but you can periodically take a look at them until they resemble this.
- At that point, you’ll want to put them in the blender and purée them. Return to the pot on low heat and continue cooking uncovered. You’ll want the steam to escape to allow it to reduce and thicken. STIR OCCASIONALLY.
- When it has reduced to the point where when you stir it, it takes a few seconds to cover the bottom of the pot, it’s done. It will almost seem like it wants to hold it’s shape. Remove, store in a jar, refrigerate when cooled. Can it if you’the like to.
Combine sugar, cinnamon, cloves and salt; pour over apples and mix well. Apple butter is one of my favorite edible gifts to make during the holiday season. It has a fresh apple flavor, with deep spicy undertones, and an ultra silky texture. It tastes delicious spread over biscuits, toast, or on a peanut butter sandwich. The apple butter was very good and not as sweet as other apple butters.
